QUESTIONS ABOUT THE APPLICATION PROCESS
How long does it take to apply for a policy?
The application process will take about 5 minutes. We will try to make this process as quick and easy as possible for you, while gathering all the information we need to give you an accurate quote.

When does my policy go into effect? Your policy goes into effect on the date and time you choose, as early as the same day of your quote, depending on when we receive the signed documents and payment.

What kind of materials will I receive when I purchase a policy? You will receive an immediate evidence of insurance faxed, mailed or emailed and a Policy Kit will be mailed later to you from our Home Office. We also require documents that you need to sign and return to us.

Does my vehicle need to be inspected? This may be required, depending upon the type of vehicle. In most instances an inspection is required.
 

Does my house need to be inspected? This is not a requirement. But we will go out and inspect every house front and back before binding it. Farmers will also send an independent inspector to do their own inspection as well. There is no need to be present during either inspection.

What is a surcharge?
A surcharge is an additional premium charge, for a limited number of years, as a result of violations, suspensions or accidents on the driving record of any driver covered under your policy.

Why do companies charge different rates for different geographical areas? One factor used in determining insurance rates is the geographical area in which an individual resides. Based on the company's losses for that defined area, a company will determine premiums based on accident rates and repair costs for that area.

What kind of discounts do you offer? You may qualify for one or more of our money saving discounts (acceptable proof may be required). Availability and specific details of discounts will vary.

What types of payment do you accept?
For your convenience, we accept checks, money orders, cash (cash only at our office location) or Visa - Mastercard for monthly billing accounts.

What kind of payment options do you offer? Farmers offers a variety of convenient payment plans, including payment in full, 2 partial payments, monthly billing, electronic billing, electronic payments (bank, debit or credit card).

You can combine you auto, home, commercial policies (workers comp, liability, umbrella’s, trucks…) under one monthly bill. 

QUESTIONS ABOUT COVERAGES AND CLAIMS
What kind of coverage do I need to buy?
It depends upon your personal situation. Our insurance professionals can help answer these types of questions and discuss the coverages that might be best suited to your needs.

How much of a deductible should I get? If your car is damaged, the deductible is the dollar amount you are responsible for. A lower deductible means that you pay less out of pocket in the event of damage to your car, but your premium will be higher. A higher deductible will lower your premium. If your car is financed or leased there may be restrictions on the amount of deductible you can carry.

What do I do if I have an accident?

  • The very first thing you should do is stop profuse bleeding if possible. Avoid moving an injured person. Call a doctor or an ambulance.
  • Warn other drivers to prevent further damage, set flares and signal with a flashlight.
  • Notify the police. Do this even if the other party requests that the police not be notified.
  • Once the police have been notified, get as much information as possible:
    • Names, addresses, phone numbers, vehicle information and insurance information of all other drivers involved in the accident.
    • Names, addresses and phone numbers of all witnesses and passengers.
    • Name and department of the responding police officer.
    • If your car is towed, the name and phone number of the towing company.

  • Don't admit liability or fault to the other driver.
  • If you happen to have a camera in your car, take photos of the accident scene (don't do anything to endanger yourself while doing this).

What happens if my windshield gets damaged? Farmers offers Glass Deductible Buyback coverage that will replace, if needed, your windshield with a $100 deductible regardless of the deductible you have on your policy. There is no cost to you if it is repairable.

Do you offer car rental in case of an accident or theft? Farmers offers car rental reimbursement from $15 to $50 a day up to 20 days depending on your selection at the time of application. In case the car is in a body shop because of an accident or if it was stolen we will provide a rental car from your local rental car office (Enterprise, Hertz…) and we will pay them directly or you can rent a car of your choice and we will reimburse you for the number of days your car need to be repaired or recovered up to the maximum amount per day and the maximum number of days allowed. Farmers will even pay you the Rental Reimbursement even if you do not rent a car.

Do you offer roadside assistance? Farmers offers at the time of the application Towing and Road Service up to $150 per claim. You can call 800-435-7764 or you can pay the tow charge and submit your receipt to us for reimbursement.
